These words have been running across my mind a lot lately..

“Creating for the sake of creativity”.

When you turn your creativity into a business, it’s easy to become detached from its purest form:

Inspiring. Cup-filling. Mindful. Freeing.

It can become a means to an end.

I’ve been sitting with these words..

What would it feel like to be whole-heartedly creating without any final goal or obligation?

Maybe it’s just me, but when I’m creating for the sake of creativity, I feel free. I’m not attached to the final outcome, my clients expectation, and my own expectations that I put on myself (those are the worst ones..)

It’s through conversations with my friend, Kayleigh, who is a painter, that have brought these words to the forefront of my mind. A fellow creative who gave herself permission to just put what she wanted out into the world; and let people take it or leave it.

(I also recently shot some photos for the launch of her new print shop which was so good for the soul— some snippets at the end of this post!)

So I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.

What do I want to do more of?

What type of art do I want to create?

Who do I want to create with?

Well, this is a little taster of what makes my soul happy:

Colour. Film. Grain. Fun. Vintage-vibes. Organised mess.

Don’t get me wrong, most of the fun of my job is getting to bring each clients individual idea to life. A new creative challenge each time. Being trusted to apply your creativity to someone’s own vision is such a compliment!

But, as a creative, I think it’s important to create for your own creativity sometimes 💚

Remembering your why. Rediscovering your spark. Channeling the creativity that may have gone stale. It will make you better at what you do, and it will translate into your future work.
